IP Protection categories as per IEC 60529
It classifies the degrees of protection provided against the intrusion of solid objects (body parts like hands and fingers which may come in accidental contact), dust, and water in electrical enclosures
It consists of letter IP and followed by two digits
First digit: Degree of protection against contact and foreign bodies
Second digit: Degree of protection against water
Example of a protection category, e.g. IP 54:
First characteristic numeral = 5:
Protected against dust
Second characteristic numeral = 4:Water splashed on the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects.
